Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy Katana parts online?

From what I can see CMS list most parts for all Katana models, visit the CMS motorcycle parts & accessories website , click on the Suzuki Motorcycles Parts link, select Motorcycles/ATV - page 3 currently has the GS550/650 models and page 4 the GSX750/1000/1100 models. Once on the page click on the "partslist" link to get the full list by microfiche.

Can you fit an oil cooler to a Kat?

Yes. There is a dedicated cooler take-off point either side of the oil filter housing. A full width 10 row cooler will fit exactly in the place of the fake cooler originally fitted under the fairing. IMPORTANT: If you fit a cooler you must know what you are doing as you also need to fit an oil gallery plug inside the filter housing or a GSX1100EF filter cover to redirect the oil - otherwise you may, at best, end up with a cooler that does nothing and at worst a trashed head, not cheap...  Click here for a simplified idea of what's going on.

Can you get a full gasket set for the 1000?

Yes, although many people will tell you that you need to buy individual gaskets for the 1000, Suzuki do a full set, part number : 11400-49883.

Are there any big bore kits available for the 1000?

Strictly no. However, the Wiseco 820cc forged piston kit for the GSX750 fits the 1000 to give around 1025cc. Although this isn’t a big increase it is probably cheaper than buying Suzuki over bore cast pistons and will give an increase in compression too. WARNING: because the 750 has much smaller valves you cannot increase the valve size on the 1000 as the valve pockets break through to the ring groove once machined.

Update:  This kit is no longer available, either use Suzuki oversize pistons, fit new liners to the 1000 cylinder block, get an 1100 block or go mental and get some form of Gorilla block and take it out to 1500cc!

Will an MRE clutch for the 1100 fit the 1000?

Yes, but you will probably have to machine the original Suzuki face plate to get the right clearances on full clutch pull.

Do you have to use the MRE case extender with an MRE clutch?

No. You do need to use something though. I’ve got an Orient Express case extender on my Kat but someone now makes a complete replacement case similar to the MRE ones used on Kawasakis and GSX-Rs.  I'll update if I find out who.>

Can you do a hydraulic clutch conversion?

Not to my knowledge as the clutch has an internal "pull" mechanism and not the usual push job. I have seen a GSX fitted with an external hydraulic conversion that used a brake master cylinder but it didn’t look pretty. If you know how to do a proper conversion please let me know.
